Flower box and new green paint on door

Doesn't the green door make this flower box really pop out!  The pansies look great. The rununculus (sp?) not so much. So maybe another Pansie? Can't see it well but also have asparagus fern, creeping Jenny, and lobelia. The lobelia is my second attempt to start from seed and is just little seedlings right now but I hope they fill in later as the season goes.

Clematis and allium

Here's the other side which is lighter than the one in the background.

Clematis

Clematis this year is more violet, first year was more purple, other side you'll see is more pink. It's niobe so it's actually supposed to be red but I bought it because the flowers were purple that were on it.
Makes me think that maybe it's going to become more red every year.

Red mulch

Tragedy struck as far as the solenaceous family is concerned. First I put a few more tomato plants out but then forgot to put more walls of water around them. This was 2 Friday's ago before we left for the weekend. I think I thought I'd be back to the house and have time to put them up and of course that didn't happen we went up to Chicago for weekend and on return they looked pretty done. Wilted and yellow.  But alas I have more seedlings then I have places to plant them! Right?

Not! A mouse has gotten into our house and we have yet to catch it. And not only did it eat my sunflower seeds. But it finished off the seedlings of all the tomato plants left except a few of Rylie's and my pepper plants. GONE!!! Can you  believe it? Wow. Plan A and B dead. OK so plan C go to Sheridan's nursery and buy new plants, lay down the better red mulch (thicker biohazard bags from office), and fill up the walls of water and put those around them too.

Let's hope I don't have to repeat plan C again and call it plan D but after weeks and weeks of mild weather I think I am all off as far as schedule goes and I probably put the tomatoes out way too early! Phooey! I think I've gotten so consumed with following the Farmer's Almanac as far as above and below ground that I have lost track of when to plan out with respect to the average last frost. Especially since our last true frost was first of March I think? With just a few dips in April.

Container Gardening-- why not?

Containers are all the rage this year so what the heck! Especially since we're short on time and money to do outdoor hardscaping at the moment.

Lemon grass in middle for height, variegated lemon thyme, golden oregano, dill and purple oxalis. So half edible and half ornamental and all beautiful!

Don't Disturb This Groove: Plants Around the House

This blogger has wonderful plants all over her house. Hopefully she'll share some secrets for how she keeps them from dying. I may do well outside or on plant stand before going out but I feel like buying houseplants I'm just sacrificing innocents.

Don't Disturb This Groove: Plants Around the House: Today I'm joining The Nester for a plant party !  Here's a look at the plants around my house.  Plants and flowers inexpensively br...

Rock Garden ideas

Big problem is I need some seriously big rocks. And you don't just walk into a store and buy those. Probably have to go out to Hoerr's and buy and have delivered! Hello? Do you have big rocks? How much are those? Can you throw a Japanese Red Maple in with my order? THANKS!!!

This was how I wanted the tuteur (sp?) To look.

The base of my trellis tuteur's is 4 feet square and that's 2 feet too much because then it eats up 16 square feet instead of 4..... I need a to make a pattern this time and I can use the old ones for some of the small cross peices...!

Menu Monday

In my effort to figure out how to get more organized so I have more couch time I've been looking at Organizing sites on Pinterest, Blogs, and such. So this one has a Menu Monday and swears that menu planning saves tons of time.

Then there was all of these great menu boards you can make. The most extensive one even attaches the recipes.

Soooooooooooo now to put together easy, HEALTHY recipes!

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh Maintenance

I wanted to give Artichokes a try. I like them occasionally although I would bet in the food prep category they are not considered good for a 15 minute weeknight meal plan. I also love that the plant when full grown looks so extra terrestrial!

I saw these seeds in the Botanical Interests catalog on line so here we go. After purchase, I find out that you have to put them outside for 10 in a row with temps in the 50's and night time 30's. Who would have ever thunk that wouldn't happen? (Is thunk a real word?) We didn't. Even now with the dips toward frost the day time temps are 60's. So this 10 day time period to fool them into thinking they overwintered and are now second season? Probably not going to work.

But hopefully this will get some E.T. action in the garden.

New Planting Corner in Basement

Last year my husband, Pat, made this plant stand for me! He didn't finish it until after St. Patrick's Day buttttttttt hey it's awesome. This is the first year I had it early and started the season on time. So it'll be interesting to see what difference it makes.

Another Martha Stewart Paint...Lemongrass

This one was a sample that I rejected for the inside walls but had plenty to cover this trellis. Lemongrass and I'll have to correct the other was Bay Leaf not Basil.

Martha Stewart Paint ... Bay Leaf.

Having good day painted front door and 2 trellis' after my friend Lisa Goodwin pointed out how the paper wasps were stripping off the smallest little peices and making their nests!

But wow did I pay for this later.

Beer Garden

Hoping for a slug fest! OK if they don't show up that's ok too as long as I don't find anyone eating my precious Brocolli Romanesco and Rubine Brussel Sprout seedlings.
